AUSTIN TAKEOVER

Visible, Denver-based wireless phone company took over Austin, Texas by painting the city blue with their klein blue ads. Visible also highlighted several Austinites and their quirky but authentic selves. Features included Gaby Navarro leader of Los Verdes, Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada from The Black Pumas, Merlin Tuttle who is a bat expert, and last but not least, Eliana Gutierrez the youngest female pitmaster in Austin.

My role included building mechanical files, sketching images prior to the shoot, selecting wardrobe, looking at and selecting casting, finding and pulling inspiration for props, looking at locations, picking final photo selections, collecting retouching notes for the photo editor, and more.

Here is the final image for the Black Pumas. Watching their shoot on Zoom was exciting and fun because of all the electric energy that Eric Burton (lead singer) had. See the initial black and white sketch on the right.

Here is the final image for Merlin and his bat crew. This image was shot in front of Congress Avenue Bridge where each night America’s most famous bats come out and fly around. To the right see the hands and phone image that we also captured at Merlin’s shoot. Check out a video about Merlin here.

I wasn’t able to attend the shoot IRL due to COVID, but was able to watch on Zoom. Eliana and her team did make some BBQ for the Madwell team, but dang I swear I could smell it through my computer! See the hands and phone image we captured to the right at this shoot. Check out a video about Eliana here.

Here was the initial black and white sketch for Los Verdes. You can see how much the composition of the photo changed we found out we were able to photograph in the Austin FC stadium. Final image on the left.
